OSM - OpenStreetMap

OSM processing by TYDAC

The osm ++ maps prepared by TYDAC (WMTS and WMS services) are based on the one hand on OpenStreetMap (OSM), supplemented by (hence ++):

  • Copernicus data (EU DEM for relief and contours, Corine for some landuse categoories)
  • Open Data of Swiss cantons where available (osm++ alps)

osm++ alps

Data is processed at least quarterly and roughly covers the alpine ridge. In addition to osm europe we supplement:

  • Buildings from surveying data where available
  • More detailed DEM derived data where available: relief, contours
  • swissnames: Swiss local names

Tiles of the WMTS are processed down to a scale of approx. 1: 2'500. Data volume is 420GB.

Example:

osm++ europe

The data is at least updated quarterly for almost all of Europe (except North Scandinavia and far east). Some key figures:

  • Among other things: 100 million “Places” , 50 million road sections, 25 million polygons (land use), 4 million river sections
  • Extracted are about 80 POI categories as well as objects such as individual trees and buildings, for example:
    • 850'000 gastronomy companies, restaurants classified according to cuisine (the five most common categories, first and foremost Italian …)
    • 175'000 accommodations
    • 1.27 million public transport stops
    • 1 million park benches
    • 7.2 million individual trees
    • 50 million buildings
    • Last but not least: 80'000 public toilets …

Tiles of the WMTS are processed down to a scale of approx. 1: 5,000. Data volume is 685GB.

Example (Mercator Projection, slightly different zoom levals as in osm alps):

  • less details, especially local names
  • relief with lower resolution
