Appenzell Ausserrhoden: Surveying data as open available and integrated in NODI Suisse.

The WMS Services of geo.admin have been updated in the geoadmin MAP+ application. In addition we updated and enhanced the section in the OpenData WIKI:

Land register for the canton of Zurich available. Since 30.08.2023 as well on NODI Suisse.

The majority of cantons has an open data geodata policy. The data of the land register are also public. We have exclusively integrated these data or links to them in NODI Suisse for 15 cantons. As a supplement, the PLR-cadastre (public law restrictions on landownership) is also available for 17 cantons

Under www.mapplus.ch we have merged the access to all of the TYDAC geoportals .

We have integrated over 16'000 Web-Services in MAP+ geo.admin and NODI Suisse: geo.admin, geodienste.ch, all cantons and the Principality of Liechtenstein.

The day after it was published, official survey was already integrated in TYDAC Nodi

Price supervisor demands nationwide, finally fee free download of Geodata (data of the official cadastral survey). The price supervisor will therefore write to the eight cantons concerned - Lucerne, Vaud, Neuchâtel, Thurgau, Obwalden, Nidwalden, Jura and Appenzell Ausserrhoden. This is because the fee-free access to geodata should be implemented as quickly as possible.

SchweizMobil with Open Data: The geodata Veloland/Wanderland/Mountainbikeland/Skatingland are now available for download as open data. Only the source reference is mandatory: “Federal Roads Office, Canton, SwitzerlandMobility Foundation”.

TYDAC has published tha data on his Outdoor Portal.

On September 19, 2002 (!) a TYDAC event took place named “Open Source and Open Data”. This indeed long before anyone else started to talk about it, despite doing it (opendata.ch started eight years later, in 2010). Daniel Morisette, Canada, known as the mother of UMN MapServer (besides Steve Lime as father), was our keynote speaker at that time with two presentations: Open Source GIS and UMN MapServer. One other speaker was Rolf Buser (Kogis). As representative of the Swiss Government he stated: “The easy and affordable access for all basic geodata is the central purpose of the current strategy”. Since then, the exact opposite happened: swisstopo increased pricing for geodata usage on the internet dramatically. It took swisstopo until March 1st, 2021 to implement the strategy they talked about for almost twenty years later! But finally they did it - and the way the did it was a brilliant job.

Our opinion is, that data belongs to the ones who paid for. Means: all government data is owned by the taxpayer. It is just madness, if government impedes access to valuable data either just not giving any access or by fantasy pricing. The value of data is solely and only in its wide usage - not used data is worthless and hindering usage is stupid. But: something is changing. Many cantons are front runners when it comes to open data. Up to 2021, 16 of them have openen the access to their data! Congratulations!
